Claude Code Computer Use

Claude Code Computer Use

Research-preview feature that lets Claude Code natively control the local computer’s mouse, keyboard, and screen via screenshots. Mac OS desktop app only at launch, with Windows coming later. Works across connected apps (ClickUp, Finder, Gmail, etc.) but has restricted browser access for security — Safari is read-only and users still need the Claude Chrome extension or Playwright for full web automation. Pairs with Dispatch and Scheduled Tasks for hands-off workflows.

Key points

  • Research preview, Mac OS desktop app only at launch
  • Controls mouse, keyboard, and screen via screenshots
  • Requires full accessibility and screen recording permissions per app
  • Safari is read-only by design; full browser automation needs Chrome extension or Playwright
  • Can chain with Dispatch and Scheduled Tasks for cron-triggered computer use
  • Available in Cloud Co-work and Cloud Code desktop app
  • Pro and Max plans at launch, no team or enterprise
  • Boris describes computer use as a catchall for software that lacks programmatic access. In Co-work, he says it can use almost any local software, is still slow, but works quite well with Claude 4.7 [src-054]
  • He names computer use as one of the product areas likely to become much more interesting as models improve over the next six to twelve months [src-054]
